Fossil Floor
Calgary International Airport
Badlands and Fossils
Fossil Floor (2002) is comprised of over 100 cast bronze features set into
2 separate terrazzo floors (measuring 100' x 20') at the Calgary
International airport. The terrazzo is designed to suggest a topographical
map of the Alberta badlands. The bronze inserts depict a multitude of bones
and fossils, carefully researched from ancient species and traces located in
the geographic region of Alberta. Downstairs on the Arrivals level, more
cast bronze tiles depicting fossilized forms are inserted randomly
throughout the floor.
