The
Drawing Device
Drawing Device a project by Kip Jones, brings the oldest of mark-making skills into the purview of
technological control through the use of mechanical devices, such as artists
tools, drawing attention to the distancing of hand from paper. Jones' devices
are reminders that our culture has already psychologically and visually
accepted the shift away from the physical familiarity of handmade lines to
technologically- created images and reproductions. The artist has subtly
played on cultural needs such as the need to play, the need to interact and to
create, and the need to assert our humanness (and control) over machinery for
our own ends.
